Has anybody else noticed that notices no longer hyperlink to the post? Come on Kinja.....

For your benefit, here’s a Cadillac publicity picture that for all the world looks like my grandfather in his ‘62 Caddy. He loved his cars and near his home town was a county road in Iowa that was straight for three miles where he measured the top speed of every car he ever owned.

Funny thing was the first time I was on that road, I did too unsolicited speed test of my own . A ‘07 Civic SI sedan will do 126 mph on the flat.

That is one good looking car.

If you click on the “view all notifications” it will take you to a page you can click on links to get to the post, but the broken down-down is pretty bad. It’s been going on for a while, too.

Was 126mph electronically limited? Or was it something else like drag or gearing? I've gotten my Miata to 120mph on a nice long straightaway of a track and was running out of gear at the end. Would think an SI could do more with the extra horsepower.

Yup! Fucking PISSES ME OFF!!!!!!

That car is cool! I do think random use of speed governors is silly.

I suppose aero drag combined with stock everything. It just ran out of HP at 126. Here’s 125 from a prior run..

I believe this was 5th gear

If I shifted to 6th, it stopped accelerating. A shorter final might have helped although I was probably at HP peak at about 8,000 rpm

So, two things.

One, your car hits it’s maximum speed in 5th gear. 6th is basically an overdrive for fuel economy reasons. EPA has to shift when the dash says shift during fuel testing. (Other cars that have this? Every Porsche from 2012 onward. Nope, you don’t need 7 gears - it’s got two overdrives!)

Two, Honda limiters are weird in that they cut engine power back. You weren’t out of power - the engine was being retarded. Honda governs all of their cars at 125MPH, though some may be lower.

P eaky motor, 126 is really pretty good. Miata has a smaller wall to push through the air. T he Civic, even though technically a compact car, has a fairly tall body.  Hard to imagine there are cars now that will do double that...

The no longer linked thing truly sucks, as sometimes you might want to respond to a comment and it can be a pain to track down the post.

As far as the 126, cool, best I have done is 120 in my old Sentra SE-R many years ago.  The Sentra had some more, but I backed off.

Hmmm, it didn’t act like it was hitting a governor as power was smooth and uninterrupted. Do you have a source for the 125 governor discussion?

I suppose one other aspect is I run 88 octane gas. I bet limited timing advance is good for at least 10 hp.

That’s worth citing these days? No. And I really don’t need one. You can take the word of a guy who knows his shit or not.

And n o, changing gas will not help. You aren’t knocking, the octane is fine. You are not going to get more timing advance.
